Elected as the world's first lesbian head of state in 2009, as Premier of Iceland, leading the way to recognition of women's equality.  Social Democrat and Iceland's longest serving member of Parliament.  Turned Iceland economy around dramatically after the economic crash of 2008.  Member of Parliament as a social democrat since 1978, making her the longest serving MP in the country.  Married to author [[Jonina Leosdottir]].  Retired in 2012.
