Classical piano and music composer, notable for his romantic and sentimental piano pieces.  His compositions include Grande Tarantelle for piano and orchestra, Bamboula, and other piano pieces that unite Creole and Latin American dance idioms with European virtuoso piano styles.  Caused a sensation among women followers for his romantic good looks, and initiated a trend of playing to the female audience.
