Biographer and author.  Books include 'Barbara Stanwyck: The Miracle Woman' (2012), 'Vanessa: The Life of Vanessa Redgrave' (2014), and 'The Art of American Screen Acting: 1912-1960' (2018, a study of twenty major actors, from Lillian Gish to James Dean).   Novels include his debut book 'That Was Something' (2018).  Has written about film for Sight & Sound, Film Comment, Nylon, New York Magazine, The Village Voice, Time Out New York, and many other publications.
