Chilean who was tortured and murdered in Santiago in 2012 as a consequence of his sexual orientation. He has become a symbol against homophobic violence in Chile.  The event has created an emphasis on legislating against hate crimes based on sexual orientation, with a law on hate crimes passed in 2012.
