Film director of the silent era of films, notable for the film 'Nosferatu' (1922) which is a play on Dracula.  Emigrated to Hollywood in 1927, and directed such films as films 'Sunrise' (1926, which received several Oscar awards, including Best Picture, at the very first Oscar presentations) and 'City Girls' (1930).
