Artist known for his gold paintings series, incorporating geometrical shapes with a backdrop of gold leaf.  Helped to found  Aosdána (the association of Irish artists), and was conferred with the title of Saoi, the highest honour that can be bestowed upon an Irish artist.  Former architect.
