Served as the commissioner of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and as the Victory Institute's chair. Actively involved in conservation and founder of Chicago WILDERNESS Magazine (1997) and founded Friends of the Forest Preserves. Inducted into the Chicago Gay & Lesbian Hall of Fame (2014).
