Description
Former professional baseball player, played with the Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Diego Padres (career batting average was .226 out of 272 games); now runs a restaurant in Miami. Vice-Chairman, 'StandUp Foundation', which targets bullying and homophobia in sports. Hired by Major League Baseball as Ambassador for Inclusion (2014), to head up baseball's efforts to build a safe workplace for all. Promoted to Vice-President, Social Responsibility and Inclusion (2016). Promoted again to Advisor to Baseball Commissioner on Diversity Issues (2017). Author of the book 'Billy Bean - Going the Other Way'.
