Notable for novels 'Lost Language of Cranes' (1986), which has been made into a film; 'While England Sleeps' (1993); 'The Page Turner' (1998), also made into a film; and 'Martin Baumann' (2000). Recent book is 'The Two Hotel Francforts' (2013). Controversy after charged with plagiarism in 1994. Member of the Creative Writing faculty at the University of Florida.
