Description
Activist in advancing the rights of black lesbian feminists. Literary critic. Co-founder and publisher, 'Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press' (1980). Received a 1994 Stonewall Award for her activism. Has lectured and taught at colleges and universities throughout the U.S.. Recipient of the Lambda Literary Publishing Professional Award (2019) for her work as an author, publisher, and activist through which she opened up a national discourse about the intersections of race, class, sexuality, and gender. Twin sister of LGBTQ activist Beverly Smith.
