Was a partner to [[Phyllis Ann Lyon]], as part of the first same sex wedding in California State in 2008.  Founded 'Daughters of Bilitis', the first political and social organization for lesbians in the United States. Shortly after founding DOB, the couple began publishing The Ladder, the first monthly lesbian publication focused on politics, fiction, poetry and connecting lesbians across the country.  The two co-authored the book 'Lesbian/Woman' (1972).  The women were the first open lesbians to join the National Organization for Women and helped form the Council on Religion and the Homosexual in Northern California to persuade ministers to accept lesbians and gay men into churches.  Featured in many documentary films, including 'No Secret Anymore: The Times of Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon' and 'One Wedding and a Revolution'.  Known simply as Del Martin.

Was a partner to Phyllis Ann Lyon, as part of the first same sex wedding in California State in 2008.
