Description
Holder of the John H. Bennett, Jr. Chair in Southern Letters and Literature at the University of South Carolina since 2013. Formerly the Guy Davenport Endowed Professor of English at the University of Kentucky for twenty years. Collections of poems include 'On Wings Made of Gauze' (1985), 'Rice' (1995), and 'Love Child’s Hotbed of Occasional Poetry' (2020). Recipient of the National Book Award for her collection 'Head Off & Split' (2011), and has been nominated for the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work. Founding member of the Affrilachian Poets.
