Daughter of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V.  She was Duchess of Florence, Duchess of Parma and Piacenza and governor of the Spanish Netherlands (1559-1567 and 1579-1581) and Governor General of Abruzzo (1569).  Though married to Alessandro de Medici, Duke of Florence (who was later assassinated by his cousin) and subsequently Ottavio, Duke of Parma, she had strong love for several noble ladies.  Built the Farnese palace in Piacenzo.  Benefactor of the arts and music.
