Description
Notable arts supporter and philanthropist. Founder of the 'Chalmer's Award' which donates $25,000 CAD to artists in dance, theatre, crafts, film, the visual arts and music annually. Partner was singer/songwriter Barbara Amesbury. Appointed a Member of the Order of Canada (1987) and promoted to Companion (1997). Member of the Order of Ontario (1994). Received the Governor General's Award for Visual and Media Arts in the Outstanding Contribution (2001).
