Was the United States' first transgender mayor when she became mayor of Silverton, Oregon in 2008, prior to which she was a city councilor. Elected mayor in 1988 and 1990 – when still dressed as a man – and again in 2008, 2010 and 2012, under their new, transgender identity. Co-owner of the Palace Cinema in Silverton (1974-2020).
