Description

Award winning poet and author, teacher, moved to Amsterdam and established a well-known reputation as an academic, translator, and scholar. Co-founded the new studies 'Dutch Gay Studies'. Worked actively for gay emancipation in the Netherlands. Considered the founder of translation studies who has had a long-lasting influence on the development of the field of translation as an academic subject with his landmark essay “The Name and Nature of Translation Studies” (1972).
