Classical jazz pianist and composer, and civil rights advocate when he toured the southern United States in the 1960s. Wrote organ symphonies, piano concerti, a cello concerto, three string quartets, a one-act opera, works for organ, piano and violin. Subject of the 2019 Oscar-winning film 'Green Book'.
