Historian of U.S. law, politics, and society, with research and teaching interests in constitutional law, social movements, gender, race and sexuality. Books include 'The Stonewall Riots: A Documentary History' (2019), 'Rethinking the Gay and Lesbian Movement' (2012), and 'City of Sisterly and Brotherly Loves: Lesbian and Gay Philadelphia, 1945-72' (2000, 2004). Editor-in-Chief, Encyclopedia of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender History in America (3 volumes) (2003).
