Description

Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Toronto. His research focused on contemporary poetry, gay and lesbian literature, modern drama, the history of collections, children's literature, the romantic poet John Clare, and Milton's Paradise Lost. He explored the relations between literature, science, and gardens in his book 'The Planters of the English Landscape Garden' (1993). Noted for transforming his country home into a formal garden, as documented in his popular book 'Stonyground: the Making of a Canadian Garden' (1996).
