Description
First openly-gay president of the UK's second largest trade union, Unison, with over 1.3 million members, when she served in the post 2013-2014. Discharged from the Army for being gay. Became the Lancashire police staff representative on the national police forum in 2000, and joined the NEC, the union’s highest lay body, in 2003. The UK Acquired Brain Injury Forum (UKABIF) patron since 2014.
