Investigative journalist, forensic expert, and producer. Notable for his in-depth research on issues pertaining to national security, policing, and government surveillance. In 1988, he revealed the existence of the government's ECHELON Surveillance Program. Producer of the television series 'The Secret Society' (1987) revealing sensitive government information about defence issues, government emergency powers, and the collection of data. Has published on a wide range of subjects in leading UK newspapers including the Guardian, Observer, Sunday Times, Independent, Mail on Sunday, Daily Express. LGBTQ activist who has written on equality and the AIDS epidemic. Former Staff Writer with The New Statesman (1978-1991). Recipient of numerous awards for his work.
