Author and theatre critic for 'The New Yorker' magazine. Former staff writer for 'The Village Voice' and 'Vibe'. Cultural commentary has appeared in numerous magazines and newspapers. Winner, 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award (Criticism) shortlist for 'White Girls'. Received the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for his theatre criticism in The New Yorker magazine. Partner was poet and playwright Owen Dodson.
