Description

Composer and conductor of classical music, known for his daring and edgy works that incorporate influences outside of the western classical genre. Former Master of the Queen's Music (2004-2014). Notable works include the theatrical piece 'Miss Donnithorne's Maggot' (1974), the chamber operas 'The Martyrdom of St. Magnus' (1977) and 'The Lighthouse' (1980), and his eight symphonies. Former music director of several music festivals. Former Composer Laureate of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Patron of The Lesbian and Gay Foundation, and the Scottish Homosexual Rights Group. Also known as Peter Maxwell Davies.
