Description

Author and illustrator. Was at the vanguard of introducing art nouveau into Britain through his inkprints and woodcuts, whose subject matter was considered erotic and flamboyant. Considered an outstanding figure in the Aestheticism movement. Co-founded 'The Yellow Book' art magazine and 'The Savoy' magazine. All of his work was of ink in black and white, with white background. Close acquaintance of Oscar Wilde, for whom he illustrated some of his books. Died at an early age of tuberculosis.
