Correspondent for independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta in Moscow. Made headlines when he revealed to the world the persecution and death of many gays in Uzbekistan. Fled after the Uzbekistani National Security Service tried to force him to become a secret informer, but was arrested and ordered returned by Russian immigration authorities.
