Description

Author who is notable for the award-winning memoir 'Heaven's Coast' (2009), a book about the dying by AIDS of his lover. Other books include his third award-winning book of poetry 'My Alexandria' (1993) about the AIDS epidemic, and collection of biography, criticism and memoir 'What is the Grass: Walt Whitman in My Life' (2020). His success as a poet has inspired many other gay male poets. Winner of the National Book Award for Poetry (2008).
