Description
Executive Director at the Ontario Council For Agencies Serving Immigrants. Co-wrote and produced the AIDS film 'Another Love Story' (1990) which was one of the first films to put together the issues of AIDS and lesbians, and particularly lesbians of colour. Co-founder of Zami, a political and support group for LGBTQ Black and Caribbean people in the early 1980’s. Co-editor of Maka Juks: Writings by Queers of African Descent. Member of the province of Ontario's Expert Panel on Immigration, member of the Immigration and Refugee Advisory Committee of Legal Aid Ontario, and member the federal government’s National Settlement Council. Co-chairs the Newcomer Leadership Table at the City of Toronto and is a member of the management Board of CERIS – Centre of Excellence for Research in Immigration and Settlement. Appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada in 2023.
