Description
Sri Lankan Canadian LGBT novelist whose 1994 book 'Funny Boy' won Books in Canada First Novel award, Lambda Literary Award, and other awards. Was also a best-seller in his native country of Sri Lanka. Other novels include 'The Cinnamon Gardens' (1998 - shortlisted for the Trillium Award) and 'The Hungry Ghosts' (2013) (recently short-listed for the 2013 Governor General's Award for Fiction). Emigrated to Canada in 1983 due to ethnic conflicts in his birth country. Visiting scholar at University College, University of Toronto - 2013/2014.
