Speaker of the Assembly and Democratic member of the California State Assembly, and former member and Mayor of San Diego City Council. First lesbian speaker of the California House. Recieved the Gay and Lesbian Leadership Award from the national Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund in honor of her recent service to the city of San Diego as deputy mayor. Member of the California Legislative LGBT Caucus.
