Independent Member of Parliament since 2018, who replaced the retired former Prime Minister Malcom Turnbull. Her election tipped the balance of power away from the Liberal Party. General Practitioner, community health. Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at Sydney University, Conjoint Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at University of New South Wales and Conjoint Professor in the National Institute of Complementary Medicine at University of Western Sydney. First woman and first LGBT person to be elected president of the Federal Australian Medical Association (AMA). Awarded the Centenary Medal for services to Health and Medicine (2003). President of the Australasian Integrative Medicine Association (2009-2012). Appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (2011).
