Pop singer in the boy-band Boyzone, whose songs consistently ranked in the top 5 in the UK and won international appeal. Caused a sensation when he came out as gay in 1999. Entered into a civil partnership with internet businessman Andrew Cowles in 2006. Gately died of a heart condition.
