Description

Ballet dancer and choreographer, dancing with Sadler's Wells Ballet. Co-director of Australian Ballet (1965-1976). Artistic Director of the Adelaide Festival of Arts (1970-1976). Appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (1964) and knighted (1968). The Helpmann Academy and the Helpmann Awards are named in his honour. Partner was Michael Benthall.
