Description

FCEO and Founder of Educate & Celebrate. Voted No: 1 in The Independent on Sundays Pink List 2011 for her commitment to LGBT in education and awarded a ‘highly commended’ by the TES ‘Teacher of the Year’ 2012. Began Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans History Month celebrations at Stoke Newington School, Hackney, North London in 2005 with a view to eradicating homophobic language and challenging the perceptions of LGBT people. Set up her own school as a Diversity Training Centre for teachers in 2010, offering LGBT training and INSET to teachers nationally in how to make their own schools LGBT-Friendly. Whole school approach was recognised by Ofsted as ‘a centre of best practice’ for successfully tackling homophobic bullying. Developed her ‘Educate & Celebrate’ teacher training and resource programme since 2010 drawing on her experiences of implementing the most effective strategies in the classroom and using feedback from delegates to inform best practice. LGBT Schools Advisor for Birmingham and Durham City Councils, and works with many schools, colleges and universities across the UK to make them LGBT-Friendly by following her 'Educate & Celebrate' programme to create centres of 'best practice'. Active union member and a regular public speaker and writer on LGBT issues.

Awards: 2011 Pink List No:1 Independent on Sunday; 2012 TES 'Highly Commended Teacher of the Year'; 2014 European Diversity Awards shortlisted for supplier of a diversity programme

Appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (2016) for founding Educate and Celebrate.
