Description
Gymnastic competitor in the Artistic Gymnastics category. Has competed in three Olympic games (2012, 2016, 2021). He is the first of his country to medal at World Cup events, and the first to qualify for a Summer Olympic Games. Ranked World No. 1 in floor and vault (2011). In 2011 he received the National Sports Award from the Chilean government. In September 2018 the International Gymnastics Federation {FIG) included the 'Gonzalez' in the Code of Points. The move, which he first performed at the 2003 World Championships in Anaheim, CA, United States of America, is a backward flip with three-and-a-half turns. Came out as gay in his autobiography 'Champion: Lessons, triumphs and falls of an Olympic gymnast' (2023).
