Description
Film and theatre director, notably for the hit films 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' (1971) and 'Midnight Cowboy' (Academy Award, Best Director and Best Picture - 1969), among many others. From 1973 he was an associate director of the Royal National Theatre. Made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to film (1970).
