Pop Singer and film actor. Creator of what is now called the 'Cantopop' music genre. Most Popular Male Artist Awards (1988) and Jade Solid Gold Best Ten Music Awards (1989). Star in films such as 'Farewell My Concubine' and 'Happy Together'. Often played homosexual characters in his films. Received numerous film awards, including three Cannes Film Festival Awards (1993, 1996, 1997) and a Venice Film Festival Award (1994) for his film roles. Subject of the biography 'Firelight of a Different Colour: The Life and Times of Leslie Cheung Kwok-wing'. Bisexual. Committed suicide.
