Description

Poet, novelist, most notably 'Before Night Falls', a New York Times bestseller and made into a movie in 2000. Rebelled against the Castro government due to his homosexuality, lived in prison from 1974-76, and escaped to the US in 1980. Author of the novel 'Farewell to the Sea' (1985) which was written during his prison time. Died of AIDS.
