Description

Transgender Episcopal nun. Former member of the U.S. Navy who was discharged when it was revealed she had had a sex change operation - fought the discharge in court, and won. LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS activist. Eventually became a nun of the Catholic Church after being repudiated by the Episcopal Church. Founder of the AIDS Education and Global Information System database. Recipient of the Award of Courage from the American Foundation for AIDS Research, among other awards. Born Michael Clark, who then took the name Joanna Clark, and then Sister Mary Elizabeth Clark.
