Description

Documentary filmmaker with his own company, DeepFocus Productions, which is noted for coverage of social and community issues, many with a focus on his LGBTQ community. Examples include: 'Coming Out Under Fire' (1994) examines the origins of the military’s policy against gays in the World War II era; 'Licensed to Kill' (1997) investigates convicts jailed for murdering gays; And 'Family Fundamentals' (2002) profiles the gay children of religious fundamentalist parents. Former member, Board of Governors, Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (2002-2006). Recipient of numerous Asian and LGBTQ community awards. Industry awards include the George Foster Peabody Award, three Sundance Film Festival awards, the Berlin Film Festival’s Teddy Award, Taiwan’s Golden Horse Award, and five Emmy nominations.
