Description

First openly gay judge of New York States highest court, the Court of Appeals, having been appointed in 2017. Formerly a justice of the New York Supreme Court (2007), and the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division (2012). Started his career with the Legal Aid Society. President of the International Association of LGBT Judges from 2008 to 2011, and a leader in the L.G.B.T. Bar Association.
