Description

Dancer and choreographer in the classical Bharatanatyam style and winner of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi award. The first Sikh to take up Bharatnatyam as a dance form. Acted in the movies 'Earth; by Deepa Mehta and ;Khamosh Pani' by Sabiha Sumar. Foundedthe Abhyas Trust: a non profit organization dedicated to yoga, dance, urban design and the care of stray animals. In June 2016, Johar and five others from the LGBT community, filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court of India challenging Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code.Partner is journalist Sunil Mehra, which led to the 2018 Supreme Court decision declaring Section 377 unconstitutional. Also known as Navtej Johar.
