Description

Romantic poet, notable for 'Leaves of Grass' (1855), which was considered obscene at the time of publication due to its overt sexuality. His poetry is said to reflect the soul of America of his time. Two of his well known poems, 'O Captain! My Captain!' and 'When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd', were written on the death of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. Worked as a journalist at various newspapers.
