Description
Novelist, literary critic, and translator. Noted for his translations of Greek anthology and book 'W. B. Yeats: A Critical Study' (1915). Wrote 17 novels most of which focus on boyhood, adolescence and friendship, as does his autobiographical work Apostate (1926). Author of the Tom Barber trilogy, comprising the novels 'Uncle Stephen' (1931), 'The Retrea't (1936), and 'Young Tom' (1944, winning the James Tait Memorial prize). Founding member of the Imperial Art League. Acquaintance of E.M. Forster and a member of the Bloomsbury Group.
