Description
Physicist and astronaut. Joined NASA and in 1986 became the first woman in space and the youngest astronaut to be launched into space. Left NASA in 1987 to join Stanford University. Co-author of six children's books with her life partner Tam O'Shaughnessy. Established her own company, Sally Ride Science, in 2001. Inducted into the National Woman's Hall of Fame and the California Hall of Fame. Died of Pancreatic Cancer. Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously.
