Famous court case in which he fought the father of his lover, Lord Alfred (Bosie) Douglas for libel when he publicly stated that he was a homosexual and was subsequently charged with gross indecency - lost the case, was imprisoned, and eventually forced into exile. Notable plays and novels include 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' and 'The Importance of Being Earnest'. Worked prolifically as a journalist.
