Description

Emeritus Professor of Anthropology, Purchase College, State University of New York. Studies look at lesbian and gay anthropology, history, and human rights. Known for her essay “The Mythic Mannish Lesbian: Radclyffe Hall and the New Woman” (1985). Author of 'Margaret Mead Made Me Gay: Personal Essays', 'Public Ideas', 'Mother Camp: Female Impersonators in America', coauthor of 'Womenfriends: A Soap Opera', and co-editor of 'Amazon Expedition: A Lesbian Feminist Anthology'. Author of the book and memoir 'My Butch Career' (2019)
