Black feminist, poet, and former editor of Ms. magazine. Founded the National Black Feminist Organization (NBFO, 1973), which tackled some of the same race and feminist issues; established the Women's Foundation (1975). Notable for her book of poetry 'Black and Lavender' (1995).
