Discharged from the military for his homosexuality in 1981. He successfully appealed the decision on the grounds that he disclosed his sexuality when he enlisted and re-enlisted. Subject of the documentary 'Sis: The Perry Watkins Story'. Died of AIDS. The University of Michigan Law School awards a fellowship named in his honor annually.
