Description
King of England (1189-1199). Notable for his military leadership. Fought against his father, and when his brother died became heir to the throne. Joined the Third Crusade and conquered Cyprus but failed to capture Jerusalem - he was captured, imprisoned, and ransomed. Returned to England for a second coronation, then set off to Normandy never to return. Historians generally accept that he was homosexual despite several marriages. Also known as Richard the Lionheart.
