Author of ten successive New York Times bestselling books, known for his depictions of African-American men who were closeted. Notable books include 'Invisible Life' (1991), 'What Becomes of the Brokenhearted' (2003), and 'A Love of My Own' (2003). The E. Lynn Harris Award for Excellence in Black LGBT Short Fiction was created by the Lambda Literary Foundation in his honour.
